The Decorative Art and Design sale caters for all budgets with estimates ranging from £100 to £100,000 and, offering many different categories, we target collectors, Interior Designers, Private and Trade clients.
There are three distinct sections within the sale covering Arts and Crafts, Art Deco and Modern Design and Furniture
Highlights include a piano designed by Charles Robert Ashbee for the Guild of Handicrafts sold for £10,400; a pair of Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson oak bookends sold for £2,200 and a Liberty's Tudric pewter mantel clock sold for £3,400.
This style sits well within the modern home, we have expanded this section over the last few years, it remains popular with buyer's and vendors alike. Recent highlights include a good Art Deco walnut dining table and sideboard suite £2,300 and an Art Deco dressing cabinet in sycamore and rosewood with shagreen doors that sold for £5,100.
Over the last few sales we have concentrated on growing the Scandinavian Furniture and Design element and now have a section solely dedicated to contemporary lighting, objects and design. We continue to achieve great results following Finn Juhl's ‘Bwana’ chair selling for £2,200.
We have over two hundred Contemporary Prints, Watercolours and Paintings in each sale and we see huge potential here for our clients. Recent highlights include a rare etching by Christopher Nevinson, 'Metropolis or 2am, New York' which sold for £12,600. The Bardfield Group of artists are popular and we have a growing number of collectors searching for pictures by Eric Ravilious, Edward Bawden, Walter Hoyle, John Aldridge, Kenneth Rowntree and Michael Rothenstein. Recent highlights are five lithographs from Ravilious' Submarine series that sold for £13,000 and Edward Bawden's 'Audley End Trees ' watercolour which sold for £5,600 earlier this year.
British Art Pottery, Moorcroft, Clarice Cliff, Art Deco Ceramics and Modern Studio Ceramics, are strong within the sales and two fantastic finds, both William de Morgan Chargers, sold for £7,200 and £14,000. A recent sale of a client’s Clarice Cliff collection totaled over £30,000.
Post-War British and Continental sculpture is popular with collectors and Interior Designers and can be fully integrated into schemes in the home or garden. Two major finds have been Barbara Hepworth's 'Two Rotating Forms II' and 'Figure in a Landscape (Zennor)', both from 1966, selling for £250,000 and £80,000 respectively.
