'Procession', 1963

22.5 x 27cm
Sold with a handwritten letter from the artist dated 5 October 1966, certifying that this was painted by her three years earlier.
Provenance: Galleria San Stefano, Venice.
Artist Marie Françoise Gilot is best known for her ten-year relationship with Pablo Picasso. She was 21 and he was 61 when they met, and she became his lover and muse. Together they had two children, Claude and Paloma. Although an accomplished painter herself, her career was eclipsed by involvement with Picasso, and after their bitter split, he discouraged galleries from buying her work.
