YOUNG LIVES VS CANCER

Sworders Fine Art Auctioneers is proud to announce its partnership with Young Lives vs Cancer, naming it our 'Charity of the Year' for 2024.

When a child is diagnosed with cancer, it disrupts every aspect of life for them and their family. Instead of enjoying childhood, navigating teenage years, or exploring university life, these children and young people face fear—fear of treatment, of family upheaval, of financial strain, and of mental health challenges with no clear support.

Young Lives vs Cancer is a remarkable charity that helps children and young people (ages 0-25) and their families find the strength to confront whatever cancer throws at them.

Throughout 2024, Sworders will be dedicated to raising funds and awareness to support this extraordinary charity in its vital mission.

The Fry Art Gallery showcases the works of a diverse group of artists who settled in and around Great Bardfield in the 20th century. Known as the Bardfield Group, these artists have garnered international acclaim, and the Gallery hosts several exhibitions each year that attract visitors from around the world.

For several years, Sworders has been a principal sponsor, and we are proud to have developed a partnership that leverages our combined strengths. This collaboration has created a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship based on our shared commitment to quality.

The Fry Art Gallery is managed and operated by dedicated volunteers, with support from generous sponsorships. Exhibitions are a vital part of the Gallery's activities, and Sworders’ contributions help the Gallery enhance its programme for the coming year.

HISTORIC HOUSES ASSOCIATION

The Historic Houses Association (HHA) represents 1,600 of the UK's privately and charitably owned historic houses, castles and gardens, most of which are Grade I or II* listed. Many are considered to be iconic symbols of Britain's unique heritage. Around 500 of these properties open their doors to visitors for days out, special tours, school visits, film locations, weddings and events, or as memorable places to stay.

Members range from iconic stately homes such as Blenheim Palace, Highclere Castle, Castle Howard, Knebworth House, Longleat, and Burghley House, to more intimate residences such as Traquair in Scotland, Treowen in Wales, and Belle Isle in Northern Ireland. Most of these properties are still private family homes. Established in 1973, the Association supports owners in conserving these remarkable places for the benefit of the nation and engages in important lobbying, advisory, and marketing work on behalf of its members.

Sworders take a stand at the HHA annual exhibition and AGM in November every year, where they are happy to meet many HHA owners and friends.

CURWEN PRINT STUDY CENTRE

Sworders proudly promotes and supports the work of the wonderful Curwen Print Study Centre, an educational charity dedicated to preserving handcrafted printmaking skills for future generations. Our Chairman, Guy Schooling, became a Trustee in the spring of 2023.

Founded in 1863 by Reverend John Curwen, the Curwen Press established a tradition of creativity with renowned artists such as Eric Ravilious, Edward Bawden, and Paul Nash. The Curwen Studio opened its doors in November 1958, led by master printmaker Stanley Jones MBE.

Recently relocated to new premises in the beautiful village of Great Thurlow, Suffolk, the Curwen Print Study Centre now features two studios for teaching artists of all ages and abilities, and a dedicated space for established artists to develop their practice. The new location also allows for the display of Curwen’s extensive archive.
