Condition Report
The painting is executed on a thick wooden panel formed from a single board with two horizontal battens nailed onto the reverse. The panel has a slight vertical curvature. The flesh layers have been built up in fine hatched, strokes of paint creating modelling and form, mimicking the effect of tempera painting. The paint appears to be oil and in other areas is handled in a traditional manner. The surface of the painting reveals there has been numerous losses, visible in the texture. There is extensive overpaint across the painting, some of which appears fairly wholesale in the background. There are scattered areas of loss and abrasion. The varnish is glossy and even.
