A folk art Second World War carved wooden bust

1950s, a carved wooden mahogany bust of Battle of Britain pilot officer K J Marston, with carved initials to the right-hand side and later plaque inscribed 'Pilot Officer K. J. Marston, died 12.12.1940', with detailed information regarding the pilot,
14.5cm wide
14cm deep
25cm high

On completion of his training, Pilot Officer K J Marston joined No 56 Squadron on 28 July 1940. By the end of August of that year, he had destroyed three German Messerschmitt Bf 109s, adding a Bf 110 to his total in late September, before being shot down and wounded on 30 September, after crash landing his Hurricane 1 (P2866) over Bournemouth. Unfortunately, worse was to come, and on 12 December another aircraft's propeller struck his tail while he was circling to land. This caused his plane to crash and, despite bailing out, he was killed, aged just 22.

Buying a pre-loved, antique, or vintage item not only provides you with unique style and value for money but it also helps to reduce landfill, and the annual emissions of an antique or vintage piece can be as little as one sixteenth of those of its new equivalent!
