the fourth: 'Tierra del Fuego - South East Coast, Strait of Le Maire with Staten Island, Surveyed by Lieutenant G.N. Kendal, H.M.S. Chanticleer 1828 and Captain Robert Fitzroy and the Office(r)s of H.M.S. Beagle 1830-34', lower margin publication date 1892, with two enlarged plans of the Thetis Bay (from an Argentine sketch survey) and Port Cook, with two attached sheets of pencil navigation annotations, probably written by Mowat, 'In the Event of a vessel being wrecked or abandoned Westward of Cape Horn, the best course to Ushuwaia(sic) is Eastward of False Cape Horn, and through Ponsonby Sound where natives would be ready to pilot any shipwrecked men to Ushuwaia(sic)..... a great change has been effected in the character of the natives generally and Yahgan natives from Cape San Diego to Cape Horn ....... can be trusted'

Condition Report
the first: two sheets partially detached, grubbiness all over, rolling creases, many dirty browned areas, especially top left corner, left margin lower left quarter
the second: good generally, some rolling creases, coloured positional dots, pencil navigational annotations, browning to some areas especially top margin
the third: poor condition, prominent rolling creases, overall grubbiness, dirty brown staining, pencil navigational annotations
the forth: folding creases, left margin has 13cm (5 inch) strip of browned grubbiness with foxing

Highlights from this 350 lot auction include the will and testament of William Walle, the 16th century English soldier and politician (estimate £800-1,200) and a lifetime copy of John Foxe’s (1517-87) ecclesiastical history, Actes and Monuments, better known as the Book of Martyrs (£2,000-3,000).
