An early 20th century agate, enamel and 18ct gold box, by Cartier

of rectangular outline, composed of carved light blue agate. The hinged lid centring on a Prince of Wales feathers motif; the corners capped with gold and guilloché enamel panels, to similarly decorated side strips and a rose cut diamond push piece. Marked 'Cartier Paris 13 Rue De La Paix', 'Cartier London: 4 New Burlington Street'. France hallmark, maker's mark. With the original Cartier fitted box. 283.41g

Condition Report

The carved agate is transparent to translucent, light greyish blue in colour.
Overall in good condition for the age, with surface scratches and marks and some area of discolouration. There is chip by the edge of the top cover.
The agate presents whitish/light blue banding.
Guilloché enamel without losses, only a few chips. Two enamel panels show areas of yellowish-green discolouration.
Hinge and push piece in working order.
The signed fitted box is substantially worn.

If you would like to bid by telephone please contact our team prior to the auction with your details of the lots you are interested in and your full name, address, telephone number(s) and email address. Once our team have entered your bid request you will receive an email confirmation. We will contact you during the sale and one of our team will bid live with you over the phone.

Please note that we normally offer this service for lots with an estimate of £500 or higher and all telephone bid requests must be received by close of business the day before the auction.
