Patrol Edition No. 1, Fore End Mess, the front cover in pink wash and pen, with six typed pages, 'The Sturdy Star' Patrol Edition Number 1 Sunday June 25th 1944, 'We will be patrolling off PUKET, on SABANG ISLAND. Submarines in this area, of late have not been wasting their nt time, 'STOIC' on her last patrol sunk a 3,00 ton ship in the harbour...', further information and jokes, the pages have been taped, 34.5cm x 21cm approx

HMS Sturdy was built by Cammell Laird and launched on 30 September 1943. She survived the Second World War, spending most of it in the Pacific Far East, where she sank eleven Japanese sailing vessels, two Japanese tugboats and three barges, three Japanese fishing vessels, five small unidentified Japanese vessels, a coaster, two small Japanese landing craft, the Japanese communication vessels No.142 and No.128 and the Japanese ships Kosei Maru (99 BRT) and Hansei Maru. She visited Rønne on the Baltic island of Bornholm, Denmark, on 4 July 1956. Sturdy was sold in July 1957. She arrived at the yards of Clayton and Davie on 9 May 1958 for breaking up.

Worn. The staples are rusted. Several pages are torn and repaired with tape. Stains and marks throughout.

If you cannot attend the auction in person we can bid on your behalf. You can leave an absentee bid on our website.

The amount you bid should be your maximum bid. We will bid up to that limit for you, and remember you may end up paying less than your limit, depending on other bidding on the day.

You can leave an absentee bid up to half an hour before the start of any sale. Please note when we receive two or more absentee bids for the same amount, the first bid received will be the one taken.

Once our team have entered your bid request you will receive an email confirmation. We will contact you during the sale and one of our team will bid live with you over the phone.

Please note that we normally offer this service for lots with an estimate of £500 or higher and all telephone bid requests must be received by close of business the day before the auction.

This is an online only auction and lots will not be available to view at our auction rooms, however, all items are comprehensively illustrated and carry detailed condition reports - see 'Condition report' at the foot of each lot description.

  

REMOVAL OF LOTS

We operate a booking system for collections.  You must book your appointment online at least 24 hours in advance, to ensure your items are ready when you arrive:

 Items will be available to collect from the day after the sale at our Stansted Auction Rooms, Cambridge Road, Stansted Mountfitchet, Essex CM24 8GE. Please select ‘Collection’ as your appointment type when booking your collection time.

 

FURNITURE AND CARPETS

Furniture and carpets not collected by 5pm on Friday 11th November 2022 will incur storage charges (£10+VAT administration per invoice and £2+VAT per day, per lot).

If you are collecting larger items of furniture, please ensure there are two of you to carry the items to your vehicle, as we are unfortunately unable to assist due to current government guidelines.
