Our upcoming auction features notable works from The House of St Barnabas (in liquidation), including a Banksy Soup Can screenprint, Rob Ryan's papercut The Map of My Entire Life, and the portrait Sisters by Portuguese artist Wanda Bernardino. These artworks, donated by the artists or their galleries, celebrate the legacy of the charity, which closed in 2024.

An original Banksy 'Soup Can' screenprint leads our timed auction of three contemporary artworks from the collection of one of London’s oldest charities, The House of St Barnabas (in liquidation), that sadly closed its doors in 2024. The three artworks on offer were donated some years ago by the artists themselves or by the galleries who represent them.
Banksy (b.1974)
'Soup Can' (White, Orange and Raspberry), 2005
screenprint in colours on wove paper, artist's proof, signed and dated 'BANKSY 05' in pencil l.r., and inscribed AP with a heart, sheet 50 x 35cm

Banksy’s (b.1974) Soup Can (White/Orange/Raspberry) is from the signed edition of 10 printed and published in 2005. The series reimagines Andy Warhol's Soup Cans for the modern viewer, replacing the Campbell’s brand with the value range offered by Tesco. The original painting was exhibited as part of Banksy’s pop-up Crude Oils exhibition in October 2005, with another version covertly hung in the Museum of Modern Art in New York where it went unnoticed by staff for six days. The print comes with a certificate of authenticity issued by Bansky’s authentication body, Pest Control.
The House of St Barnabas (in liquidation) has a rich history of charitable endeavours dating back to its founding in 1862. Since 2013 it has operated a Soho private members club, combining a not-for-profit creative and cultural space with an employment academy for people affected by homelessness. It closed in January after concluding its business model was ‘simply not sustainable in the current economic environment’.
