James Pope | Photographer
James has been a keen photographer for as long as he can remember and has always had an eye for capturing the perfect image. With art running through his family, he was destined to fall into a creative discipline.
As a teenager, he studied photography at college in Bristol, which sparked an interest to pursue a career in this field. His most successful personal project has been photographing landscapes, where he has previously won competitions with the images captured.
James has spent most of his life in the South West but has just relocated and is excited to begin a new role within the team at Sworders.
Let's get to know him...
What part of the new role are you most excited about?
The part that excites me the most about joining is seeing and learning more about the items that come through the auction. I love building my knowledge to grow more of an appreciation for the history and workmanship involved in these special items.
What was the last book you read?
The last book I read was Room full of mirrors, the Biography of Jimi Hendrix. Much of his life remains unknown but the research gone into the book seems to provide the closest you can get. I have tried to play guitar with my teeth. It isn't easy!
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love to spend my time outdoors - it's where I'm happiest - and I have a real passion for immersing myself in nature. I have recently got back into playing golf, and I enjoy the personal challenge to improve.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself
I'm an avid fisherman and have travelled to rivers, lakes and oceans all around the globe to fish for specific species. Some trips have been more successful than others! I once caught a 6-foot hammerhead shark whilst fishing off a boat in the Atlantic.
With principles of locally sourced materials and clean lines resonating as strongly as when Pierre Jeanneret’s furniture was initially produced in the mid-20th century, there has been a recent fervour for this furniture on the art market.
