We are pleased to present a select group of lots from the collection of collector and connoisseur, Arthur G Tite. Although little is known about Arthur, the Tites enjoyed a long connection with the Rothschild family over several generations, beginning with Arthur Tite Snr (1841-1894), the first MD of Messrs Rothschild & Sons Bank. His grandson, Arthur George, acted as an agent to Victor Rothschild 3rd Baron (1910-1990), sourcing fine art and antiques for purchase as evidenced by numerous references in the family’s correspondence (see: Bonhams, ‘Fine Portrait Miniatures from a Deceased Estate’, 30 May 2013, lot 136).
The group is led by a pair of Chinese export porcelain court figures, mounted with ormolu candelabra branches in 1891 by the French cabinetmaker, Henri Dasson (1825-1896), which represent an interesting marriage between East and West and a tangible example of the interchange of ideas between the two.
