Jackie was a respected member of the antiques trade. She started her career with the dealer Gerald Kenyon in the 1970s at his antiques shop at The Old Leche House, Chester. She continued with Glynne Hughes, who took over Gerry’s shop when he went across to Ireland.
Jackie became the long-term partner of the well-known antiques dealer Maurice (‘Dick’) Turpin (1928-2005). She worked with him at his London shops and warehouses at Mansion Mews, Queens Gate and at Bruton Street from the mid-1980s. Jackie and indeed Dick were a formidable force sharing a passion for antiques.
Following Dick’s death, she assisted Christie’s to organise a memorable sale ‘The Legend of Dick Turpin’, held at King Street in March of 2006.
Sworders in January this year were privileged to offer a second offering of Dick’s wares from Dick and Jackie’s London apartment in Barons Keep. ‘Dick Turpin, The Legend Lives On’, proved to be a hugely well received white glove auction. Following the success of this sale we are pleased to offer the selected contents of Jackie’s Chester home.
