The Old Vicarage

Jasper Gibbons Grinling was born in 1922, the son of the sculptor Anthony Grinling.

A member of the Gilbey-Grinling drinks dynasty, Jasper served for most of his career as Managing Director of W&A Gilbey, overseeing the firm’s Scotch whiskey division and being closely involved in the renovation of Chateau Loudenne in the Medoc.

Mr Grinling was a noted amateur artist and jazz musician; he co-founded the radio station Jazz FM in 1992. He was also an enthusiastic winemaker from his Suffolk vineyard.

He lived with his wife Jane in two notable houses in Hampstead, London, in the 1970s and 1980s which accommodated their eclectic collection of furniture, pictures and objects. In retirement Mr Grinling moved to the Old Vicarage at Helions Bumpstead, from where items in the current sale are taken.
